Project: Underwater Archaeological Site Assessment and Reconnaissance Survey of the Shipwreck of the Balboa, George Town, Grand Cayman, British West Indies
M-AT was contracted by Moffatt and Nichol Engineers, Inc. of Tampa, Florida to conduct a underwater archaeological assessment of the shipwreck of the Balboa positioned near the Cayman Island Port Authority, George Town, Grand Cayman. The Port Authority was planning improvements to their port that included creating a turning basin, a deeper access channel, and expanded dock facilities.
The Balboa was a twin screw cargo vessel that sank in the harbor during a 1932 hurricane and was later dynamited into large scattered pieces.
